留学に応募したコタローとマヤも、「応募すれば終わり」ではありませんでした。待っていたのは、英語で行われる面接と筆記試験。しかも、準備期間はわずか1週間です。

「本当に自分にできるのだろうか。」

The Challenge Begins

A few days after talking with my parents, Maya and I finally submitted our applications for the study abroad program.

As we walked out of the teacher’s office, we looked at each other and smiled.

“I can’t believe we actually did it,” I said.

“It finally feels real.”

Maya laughed happily.

For the first time in several days, I felt completely relaxed.

“A week?” I repeated.

“That’s all the time we have?”

The reality suddenly hit me.

Until then, I had been imagining the fun parts of studying abroad.

Meeting new people.

Living in England.

Speaking English every day.

But now I realized that I first had to earn that opportunity.

I let out a quiet sigh.

“This is much harder than I expected.”

Even Maya, who was usually optimistic, looked serious.

“To be honest,” she admitted, “I’m nervous too.”

Hearing those words surprised me.

I had always thought Maya was confident about everything.

She noticed my expression and smiled.

“Just because I look confident doesn’t mean I’m never scared.”

“I just don’t want fear to stop me.”
